In order to avoid unpleasant incidents when you are hospitalized, it is best to know a few things about your health insurance and about various forms that you might have to fill in. When you get sick or need emergency medical assistance, there is no time to also think about such things, so it’s best to be familiar with the procedures just in case you need it.
If your insurer has agreements with medical care facilities, you can benefit of cashless hospitalization. It is best to check with the insurance company to know which these facilities are. Benefiting of cashless hospitalization in the Medi Assist network of hospitals for instance is nothing complicated. You might be issued a card which will make proof that you are insured. It is best to have it with you at all times, along with an ID document with a photo because you can’t foresee any emergencies that might occur. In order to take advantage of cashless hospitalization and to be spared of taking money out of your pocket, you need to complete a Medi Assists pre authorization form when you are hospitalized. This is used for checking your insurance conditions and for determining the amount of money that is covered by your policy. Once it is approved, you are entitled to a certain amount of medical care without paying upfront. Depending on your coverage, everything that you need during hospitalization might be paid by the insurance company or only part of the expenses. Medi Assist pre authorization form is best to be completed in advance in case of planned hospitalization. In case of emergency hospitalization, the form needs to be sent in four hours after being admitted in a facility. In case the Medi Assist pre authorization form is denied, this does not mean that you can’t benefit of medical services or coverage. You have to pay your bills at the hospital and then you can submit all the necessary documents and see if you qualify for reimbursement.
Just in case you can’t benefit of cashless hospitalization, you also need to know what a Medi Assist claim form is and how to use it. This doesn’t only need to be filled in when you your Medi Assist pre authorization form is rejected, but also when you request reimbursement for pre-hospitalization or post-hospitalization expenses or for medical care received in hospitals that don’t belong to the Medi Assist network. Generally speaking, a Medi Assist claim form needs to be accompanied by bills and receipts for hospitalization, investigations, procedures, medication, etc and also by medical reports. Since this is usually filled in after getting out of the hospital, you have the time to find out what other documents you need and to make sure you do everything right.
